In this portion of Luke's telling of the early life of Jesus, composer Sheldon Curry imagines Simeon as an old Appalachian preacher. Simeon finally sees the Son of God in human form. It is an event he has been longing for all his adult life and he praise God for it. The musical surroundings are filled with joy and the text is everyday language. The instrumental accompaniment is designed for amateur players of average experience. The addition of violin (written as fiddle) and cello add additional color and emotion.
